Adventures in Chapbook Design THE LAUNCH
or, How to create Original Content that's NOT SIMPLY DIGITAL...
Since late last year, it has been the plan to start making and selling my chapbooks in a physical format, filled with poetry and art. This month, we begin that journey with a āpromotionā that will, I hope, encourage more people to sign up as paid members. Having caused a bit of trouble this morning promoting someone elseās brilliant money-making idea, what could go wrong with this?
The plan is simple: Iāll be taking a chapbook I created in a digital-only format and creating ten physical copies. Each one will be unique. This then becomes a dry run for the Pelmanism project which will have 22 copies made, with each cover being a different one of the artworks created to accompany the poetry. Iāll be offering four of these ten for general sale. One will be sent to my only current Founding Member.
The other five will be prizes in a draw only available to Paid Members.
If you sign up as a Paid member in April, you will be eligible to enter the draw for a copy of this first run of work. Youāll also be guaranteed a physical copy of Pelmanism when the print run is finished by the end of 2024, assuming you are still a paid member. A yearās subscription to this fine publication is cheaper than the monthly rate. Iām also not making any bones over this being the best way to support me long-term.
The subscription model is not perfect by any means, but this way you guarantee that the most amount of money possible (before Stripe has their way) ends up in my pocket, and will help buy supplies for these projects and allow me the freedom to practice my craft autonomously. Youāll also be guaranteed a shout-out in Pelmanismās acknowledgements section, both physically and digitally.
Iāll be beginning with a dry run of chapbook production this weekend.
I hope this might encourage a few people to sign up once you see those early proofs and what Iām attempting to do. Weāll also have a better idea of how much Iād charge per copy if this becomes a going concernā¦
